Abstract

The Aggalara' tradition in the Pasunna' event held in Jeneponto Regency is a cultural heritage rich in spiritual and social values. However, over time and with changing times, this tradition has a complex impact on people's lives. This research aims to understand the impact that arises from the implementation of this tradition through a qualitative approach and ethnographic methods. The data collected includes direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of cultural activities, then analyzed using Lewis A. Coser's conflict theory. The results of the study show that there are four main impacts of the aggalara' tradition on the pasunna' event. First, this tradition poses a financial burden on families who carry it out due to the relatively high costs. Second, there appears to be a tendency toward commercialization, with sacred values shifting into public entertainment. Third, there is resistance from certain religious groups who consider this practice inconsistent with Islamic teachings. Fourth, the implementation of this tradition tends to create cultural exclusivity, as it is only practiced by a select segment of society. These findings underscore the importance of an adaptive preservation approach, inter-value dialogue, and reinterpretation of cultural meanings to ensure the Aggalara' tradition remains alive in an inclusive and sustainable manner.
